Yeouido Park

Yeouido Park is located in the center of one of the most influential areas of Seoul. Ergo, it could then be reasoned that Yeouido Park is the most important place in Seoul. While that may be a slight exaggeration, Yeouido Park is still a great park. It has sports facilities, several prime picnic spots and direct access to Yeouido Hangang Park.

Be warned: the park gets crowded but for a good reason. People like going to good parks. Yeouido Park is a great park.

The Scouting Report

Yeouido Park is a long park that spans the width of Yeouido, an island in the middle of Seoul. It is a part that appeals to a variety of people.

Some people come to play basketball. Some for the excellent walking path and bicycle path that make a loop around the park. Some come to relax on a patch of grass and picnic. For others, it is merely an access point to its neighbor, Yeouido Hangang Park.

There is plenty to do for everyone. Best of all, it is in a great central location in Seoul. It's location even appeals to everyone.

4 Sections

The park is actually divided into 4 sections: Traditional Korean Forest, Grass Square, Culture Square, and Nature's Ecosystem Forest.

The Traditional Korean Forest has only trees indigenous to Korea.

The Grass Square is a great spot for picnics. It has small but scenic grass fields linked by winding walking paths.

The Culture Square is an expansive square used for hosting various events and festivals throughout the year. Here you can also find basketball courts and a small shop that rents inline skates, scooters, bicycles, and various balls and other sporting equipment.

The Nature's Ecological Forest is an amazing oasis of a forest in the middle of Seoul. Even though the forest is small, walking through it completely removes the feeling of being in the middle of a city.

The availability of space at Yeouido Park is an anomaly. The park sits in the middle of Seoul, one of the densest places in the world. The park is big, but it isn't even close to being the biggest park in Seoul. Yet, even on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, when one would expect to see nothing but people, it is still easy to enjoy the park without rubbing elbows with a million people. There is room for all.

The Culture Square regularly plays host to events throughout the year. Every spring, there is a very popular Cherry Blossom festival on the island. During the fall, Seoul's International Fireworks Festival takes place over the nearby Han River. Yeouido Park is definitely a popular spot.
