If you answered yes to any of the questions posed above, then consider reading "The President's Team". If you answered yes to 2 or more of the questions posed above, then definitely give "The President's Team" a read.

"The President's Team", primarily authored by Michael Connelly but with contributions by Edward M. Kennedy, Roger Staubach, and Tom Lynch, introduces the reader to President John F. Kennedy and his love for Navy football. Although the book encompasses many years, 1963 is the year that carries the book.

1963 was a special year for many reasons. Navy football had an incredible year. Navy's quarterback, Roger Staubach, showed the country who the best football player in the nation was and won the Heisman Trophy. Most significantly, America was shaken to the core when its president, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated.

It is surprising more has not been written of the correlation of those 3 events. JFK, having served in the Navy, was extremely fond of the Naval Academy. Also, being an avid sportsman, he loved Navy's football program. As if it weren't enough to have the President of the United States of America cheering them on, Navy also had the luxury of being led by the most exciting and talented athlete in the country, Roger Staubach.

The book does an excellent job of introducing the reader to the significance of those 3 things. It interweaves them in such a masterful way that it almost feels like poetry when reading about JFK's assassination and the upcoming Army-Navy game.

Do yourself a favor. Get your hands on "The President's Team". It would be a great book to have on a rainy Saturday afternoon in the summer. Don't let Seoul's monsoon season dampen your days. Head to a coffee shop with "The President's Team" and enjoy reading about the President's team.
