Ilsan's Lake Park is working hard to establish itself as a year-round park. Already loaded with popular festivals throughout the warmer months, it has recently added a winter festival: The Winter Lights Show. For those of you looking for a place to see Christmas lights near Seoul, this is not a bad option to consider.

Ilsan Lake Park

Ilsan Lake Park is a huge park in Ilsan, a suburb of Seoul about 30 minutes to its west. The park's main attraction is a huge man-made lake. But the lake is not the only thing that draws people to the park. Near the main entrance to the park---near La Festa and Westerndom---there is an exhibition center which regularly houses various festivals throughout the year. From lake December until early January, this area is used for the Winter Lights Show.

The 2015 - 2016 Winter Lights Show

Yes. Dates are welcome. In fact, taking a date here is encouraged. As long as it works well with your schedule, it would be best to visit between December 18 and January 10. Visiting outside that window will probably leave you quite disappointed---because those are the respective starting date and finishing date of the festival. As for the viewing hours each day:

Day Hours
Monday - Friday 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday 5:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

If you can read Korean, take a look at the information below.

Because the price is very agreeable (free), the showing of lights is easily worth your money. Especially if you are really craving Christmas lights. However, the festival falls short from truly being a good display of lights.

It seems as though the park went for style over substance when arranging the displays. Unfortunately, it missed the mark concerning style. So what's left is a showing of lights that lack in style and substance.

But it is a free exhibit. So it is hard to complain too much. If you've got time to spare and it is not too much of a hassle, go to Ilsan Lake Park and check out the lights. But don't lose sleep over it if you can't make it.

The Winter Lights Show

Chaos runs amuck with the assortment of flashing lights.

The lights on the wall flash forever.

The lights on the tree flash forever.
