Wolmido Fishing

Wolmido (sometimes seen as Wolmi-do or Wolmi Island) is a perfect example of execution falling short in a well-intentioned plan. The island has been the recipient of extensive aid over the years in the hopes of creating a fun seaside destination. Although it is not as glamorous as originally planned, the island still provides a lot of fun thanks to things like the fishing that can be done from the rocky shores.

The Scouting Report

Fishing probably isn't the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Wolmi Island. However, there is a stretch of shore that provides plenty of space and opportunities for you to catch your own meal.

Fishing from the rocks of the seawall along the islands's Cultural Street is quite popular, especially among older Koreans. You will almost always find several older Korean men spending their day out on the rocks. Although they may not say much, they would be happy to share this communal fishing hole with you.

No permit is needed to fish here. All you need is your equipment, bait, and patience. So if you're itching to fish, consider this spot on Wolmi-do. It may not thrill you, but it should placate that yearning.
