The Gyeongui Line is a railway that runs from Seoul Station to Munsan Station in northern Paju. Closely hugging the segment that runs from Goksan Station to Tanhyeon Station is an out-and-back pleasant biking path that is perfect for a quick workout when all you really want is a breath of fresh air.
The Gyeongui Line Bicycle Path provides a nice reprieve from the daily doldrums for any cyclists living in or near Ilsan. There is nothing spectacular about it. It is just a nice out-and-back ride that needs to be enjoyed.
It is mostly flat with a few very minor inclines. The dedicated bike path occasionally doubles as a walking path. Four controlled intersections must be crossed.
Easy as 1-2-3
Going halfway will take you about 30 minutes. But why do that? A roundtrip will take you about 1 hour.
The enjoyment of this path needs to be combined with good eatin'. Therefore, the route you take depends on your hunger. Literally. There are no eating or drinking establishments around Goksan station. Tanhyeon station, on the other hand, has many options.
A round trip adventure starting near Goksan will provide a nice half-way re-fueling station at Tanhyeon. Get off your bike at Tanhyeon station and enjoy your choice of the many bulgogi restaurants, the ubiquitous coffee shops, or an ice cream at Baskin Robbins. Once recharged, get back on your bike and return home.
Another option is to plan your trip so that you end up at Tanhyeon station. That way, all the aforementioned eats and treats can be enjoyed without worrying about weighing yourself down for the impending return bike ride.
For those of you without your own bike, there are bicycle rental stations located at both Goksan Station and Tanhyeon Station and a few locations in between.
Where: Gyeonggi-do, Goyang-si, Ilsan-gu
The bike path connects the following train stations on the Gyeongui Line:
The bike path is easy to find upon leaving any of the above mentioned exits.
