Seodaemun Independence Park
Badminton

Whether you are dropping by after checking out the Seodaemun Prison History Hall or are getting ready to hike Ansan or Inwangsan, Seodaemun Independence Park serves its purpose well. It isn't there to awe you. It doesn't try to be too fancy. It is there to make you comfortable. And part of that is in providing you a way to quench your competitive thirst....through badminton.

The Scouting Report

If you come here to play badminton, you will find 2 courts waiting for you. They are typical badminton courts surrounded by slightly above average scenery.

Surface

Gravel and dirt. Good grip.

Pros

  • The courts are set in a scenic location. They are near the Seodaemun Prison Hall which is a restored rustic building.
  • Inwangsan and Ansan lurk in the background, watching the match, passing judgement.
  • Nets are provided.
  • The courts usually aren't too crowded.

Cons

  • Although Seodaemun Prison History Hall does offer some protection, it gets a little breezy on the courts. Don't bother playing here on a windy day.

Things to Consider

As mentioned earlier, the courts are very close to Seodaemun Prison History Hall. It is a great place to check out and learn a little bit about Korea's recent history. It was a prison used by colonial Japan to house revolutionary Koreans. There is a lot of history here.
